Inspired by a book of meditations and prayers by a renowned theologian, Carlos Simon’s Breathe opens this program with a gorgeous sonic embrace that encourages us to simply reflect and breathe.  Two wonderful pieces from the classical canon then allow us to relish the comfort found in the familiar.  Mozart’s masterful Sinfonia Concertante, the perfect vehicle for blending both symphonic and concerto elements, features OMP’s longtime concertmaster, Alice Blankenship, and principal viola, Arnaud Ghillebaert, and Mendelssohn’s vivacious and charming “Italian Symphony,” transports us to the vibrant landscape and culture of Italy and leaves us with dreams of experiencing the country in person.
